The Writing Tutors in the Learning Center support writers in a variety of courses. Our Writing Tutors meet individually with students to assist them with the following:
- brainstorming topics
- organizing ideas
- formulating a thesis
- structuring paragraphs
- developing an argument
Writing Tutor appointments are similar to tutoring appointments and are scheduled for one hour. Students can bring a draft of their paper for a course, a personal statement for a scholarship, or meet to brainstorm ideas for writing. Tutors will converse with students about their writing and help develop a plan for the next step, whether it is outlining, researching, drafting, or revising.
While our tutors do not proofread or edit papers, they do provide feedback and suggestions on sentence structure, paragraph development, and the overall flow of the paper.
