Dr. Robert Ciervo was hired in October 2006 to lead the Rutgers-Camden Learning Center (RCLC).  He brings to campus over 10 years of experience in the field of academic support for undergraduate students having formerly served as an academic advisor, counselor, academic support director, and director of retention strategies at Rutgers-New Brunswick, Temple and Drexel universities.  Additionally he is responsible for the implementation of the early warning mid term alert system and assists with the Scholastic Standing Committee of the College of Arts and Sciences which oversees probation, dismissal, readmission and retroactive course withdrawals. 

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Psychology, Ciervo completed both his master's and doctorate degrees in Sport Psychology at Temple University.  While completing his doctoral work he served as an academic advisor in the athletic department at RU-New Brunswick.  In 1999 he took the position of Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes at Temple University and also served as the academic counselor for the Men's Basketball team.   In late 2001 he was tapped to lead the Drexel Learning Center at Drexel University in Philadelphia and later was promoted to Director of Academic Strategies and Services where he oversaw additional academic support programs including the ACT 101 and Student Support Services programs.  Dr. Ciervo also teaches Psychology courses at Rutgers-Camden and has also taught sections of Introduction to Psychology and Sport Psychology at Drexel and Holy Family universities.

In addition to directing the RCLC and assisting with the Scholastic Standing Committee, Dr. Ciervo also serves as a sport performance enhancement consultant in his spare time and has worked with numerous area high-school and collegiate athletes in the pursuit of excellence. He resides with his wife Cindy and daughter Ella (1) in Newtown, PA.

 

Timothy Pure, Ed.M., Learning Specialist

Timothy Pure was hired as the Learning Specialist for the Rutgers-Camden Learning Center in July of 2007.  As the Learning Specialist, he is responsible for assisting students in finding appropriate strategies and techniques for learning success.  He also oversees the tutor training program and conducts pre-screening evaluations with students who believe they may be experiencing symptoms consistent with Attention Deficit Disorder and/or documentable learning disabilities.

Tim graduated with a B.A. in History from Boston University in 1998. He considered pursuing graduate studies in the history of religion, but chose instead to work as a special education teacher.  Tim taught for four years, working closely with a variety of students with cognitive, learning and physical disabilities.  He spent much time developing individual education plans for students with disabilities, as well as, teaching all parts of the general curriculum for middle school and high school aged students.

Tim recently completed a Master's degree in Education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.  As a concentrator in the Mind, Brain, and Education program, he studied the intersection of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, genetics, education and disability.

When not working at the learning center, Tim enjoys photography, hiking and travel. He currently resides in Westmont, NJ. 


Annette Robinson, Secretary

Annette Robinson has been the secretary for the Rutgers-Camden Learning Center since it opened in September 1992. She attended of Thomas Edison State College in Trenton NJ, and received a BA degree in communications. In addition to her job in the RCLC, she has also worked as a photojournalist and a freelance fiction writer.

Annette handles all aspects of payroll authorization and processing for the 50+ student employees who work in the center each semester. In addition, she acts as secretary of the Scholastic Standing Committee and also assists with the Academic Advising department in the College of Arts and Sciences. Annette enjoys both working with and assisting students on the Rutgers-Camden campus and looks forward to continuing her career in the Learning Center.

Annette lives in Gibbstown, NJ with her six cats.
